WHO'S FIRST WITH THE IMPORTANT PHARMACY DATA?
Co-operative makes today's headlines with another major pharmacy acquisition!
The Co-operative Group has announced its biggest ever pharmacy deal, buying 52 outlets in the north of England and confirming its position as the UK's third largest chain. Bringing the group's total to 779 pharmacies, it is the first major acquisition following this summer's merger of The Co-operative Group and United Co-operatives, and underlines the Group's ambitious plans for expansion.
The Group has acquired 51 pharmacies, and one non-dispensing outlet, from the PCT Healthcare Group. The branches are in Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Lancashire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire, and currently trade either as Peak Pharmacy or Tims and Parker. Their annual turnover is around £51m.
The Co-operative Pharmacy Group has more than doubled in recent years. In 2004 it had around 300 retail branches, but since then acquisitions have added a further 190, and the recent merger with United Co-operatives brought in another 236 branches.
Precision learned of this important acquisition only last night (Tuesday 4th December). As a matter of routine we receive information on pharmacy changes like these on a daily basis and update our National Pharmacy Database accordingly. But we do so only after we have verified the change, usually by phone. Last month we processed 175 changes to the Database. 64 of these were brand new pharmacies.
The National Pharmacy Database, re-launched in August 2007, offers unprecedented accuracy through daily updates from heathcare sales teams, wholesalers and magazine circulations. Precision also publish 'Access Pharmacy' - a monthly update report which details all the changes in retail pharmacy data month by month, from closures, openings and owner changes to small changes of address including telephone number.
